There’s a new director of S.H.I.E.L.D., but good luck figuring out who he is.
During the season 4 premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., viewers only learned snippets of information about the new director, but we didn’t meet him. When Jason O’Mara was cast, all that was offered was that he’s playing a character whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s — though the sneak peek below offers a hint at his identity.
Here’s what we do know: He has a color-coded hierarchy, though even the highest around him are given daily lie detector tests; he fears a repeat of Hydra’s infiltration; he split up the original team; and he’s hunting Daisy (Chloe Bennet). So basically, we hate him already, right?
“We knew that when we brought Jason into the show we wanted a different flavor than Fury, we wanted a different flavor than [Hill], we wanted a different flavor than Phil,” executive producer Jeph Loeb tells EW. “What would be the best way of introducing someone that we’ve never see before be the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.? And why; why him? Why is he the right guy for this? What’s been so remarkable is that Jason took the role and elevated it even further. It was one of those fun things where the writers room, which is so extraordinary, wrote a character, but when Jason gave it a voice, we went, ‘Oh, there’s a whole other level of fun that we get to play here.’”
